You can now become an official member of the Shared Earth Learning (SEL) Community Benefit Society; either as a Supporter or a CORE member.
Core Member: For people actively involved in, or benefiting from, Shared Earth Learning; such as forest school and outdoor education practitioners, and anyone local, such as volunteers, parents/carers and local residents. Local = Frome and East Somerset.
Supporter Member: For friends and allies who support our aims but are not directly involved or benefiting from our services and activities. Anyone living outside of Frome and East Somerset would become a Supporter Members. As a Supporter Member you also have voting rights, but collectively supporter members have no more than 25% of the overall voting strength of the CBS, and a Supporter Member can only be a Director if at least 75% of Directors are Core Members.
Membership will give you: a handmade share certificate, pride and access to our occasional workshops.

meaning you can be part of this beautiful network supporting nature and people, and nurturing a love of nature.
We deliver outdoor education and experiences for adults and children, for local schools and colleges, as well as community events and projects.
We are Charitable and can claim Gift Aid on individual donations, helping us support more people.
And decisions are made democratically, using the principle of “one Member, one vote”.
You will be able to have your say in shaping the future of SEL, in how we keep SEL accessible for those in Frome who need us and even stand as a director.

As a member, your role would be as follows:
Attend Annual General Meetings (AGM), although not compulsory.
Ask for additional General Meetings if needed.
Right to propose resolutions at any General Meeting
Right to Vote for resolutions at General Meetings.
Right to vote for Directors.
Right to stand for election as a Director
You might also want to provide additional support, in some way based on your skill set and/ or interest.

Ensure the governance and strategy of Shared Earth Learning meets its charitable aims.
Foster a culture of approachability and open dialogue with its membership.
Work closely with members and staff to ensure the finances, vision and operations of SEL align with its purpose and aims.
Advocate for Forest School, its benefits and what the SEL stands for,

We believe the main strengths in SEL come from our amazing site and our team’s ability to:
“provide services that promote the physical, emotional and mental well-being of disadvantaged people in our community, as well as those who care for and support them”. [from our Objects].
Our aim is to connect vulnerable people in our immediate community with nature.
There will be opportunities to get involved with community-facing events in Frome.
The opportunity to learn from the varied experiences that other Board members, and our staff core members, bring to the table.
The opportunity to use your skills, knowledge and experience to the benefit of the organisation and the communities we serve.
Knowing you have a role in making a difference to people’s wellbeing, health, social connections and skills.
Annual celebrations of SEL as an entity so all members know each other and feel valued -with food and activities provided by our Forest School Leaders.

A minimum of two board meetings per year via Zoom or in person, including our AGM.
There will most likely be some additional reading before a meeting.
Occasionally there may be additional meetings.

Essential Director skills are:
Willingness, energy and ability to commit to the role.
Sympathy for the aims and ethos of Forest School, or a willingness to learn and understand what these are.
Some understanding of governance, and/or a willingness to develop the skills of good trusteeship.
A willingness to act as an ambassador for Shared Earth Learning.
Good communication and organisation skills.
Desirable skills:
It would be great if you already had experience as a trustee, director, committee member or have worked at a senior management level, and/or have familiarity with societies or charities.

Could you help us nurture a love of nature?
Since 2019 volunteers have helped Shared Earth Learning replant a section of hedgerow on the Mendip Way near Frome. Volunteers - that is people like YOU - help us to maintain and improve our forest school site and allotments. Contact us to find out about joining our ‘Volunteer Saturdays,’ every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from midday until 3pm.

Work with us
Shared Earth Learning Co-op invites forest school leaders and assistants to join our team in Frome, Somerset.
Between £15 and £18 per hour for anything from 3 to 20 hrs per week
Contracts are usually for an initial 3 months probationary period
Roles & Responsibilities for new recruits may include:
Preparation and delivery of weekly sessions of Play-ranging
Preparation and delivery of adult well-being sessions
Preparation and delivery of Forest school sessions in schools, on our site, and during the holidays
Publicity and awareness raising
Preparing and running community workshops
fundraising
Kit-care and site maintenance
Evaluation and monitoring of participants and programmes.
Applicants’ Skills and experience
Essential:
Experience of working with groups with adults or children, with or without additional needs, and/or challenging behaviour.
Good rapport with young people.
Up to date DBS
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to operate within terms of data protection and confidentiality requirements
Based in Frome area
Applicant must be freelance/self-employed, and responsible for their own tax affairs.
Sharing in the values and objectives of the Shared Earth Learning co-operative.
